What is BUMPS?

BUMPS – Birth Understood for Mums and Partners is the free NHS commissioned antenatal service for expecting mums and their partners who either live in Hull or are registered to a Hull GP.  It is run by ABL Health which has a strong pedigree of offering community health services. If you would like to see a list of our available courses or book a place, please visit the Courses page.

What are antenatal classes?

Antenatal classes help you prepare for birth, labour and parenthood.  Our classes are also a great way to meet other mums-to-be and partners at the same stage of pregnancy. The classes are designed to be relaxed, informal and enjoyable. You are welcome to bring someone with you to the classes (either a partner, relative or friend), or you can come by yourself.

Our BUMPS Birth Educators deliver the classes and are there to answer any questions you may have. They can help with queries regarding labour and birth, discuss the different options that are available to you and support you throughout the antenatal classes.

It is recommended that you start the classes when you are 28-32 weeks pregnant. Please book as early as possible to secure your place. If you are already 28+ weeks and have not booked your class, please call us – we may still be able to offer you a place.

What topics are covered?

The courses are comprised of 4 main sessions, which are either delivered in a variety of formats, i.e. one sessions a week for 4 weeks or over a weekend dependent on the course you choose.
